LTPP Section Mapping

Welcome to LTPP Section Mapping, a feature that displays selected LTPP pavement sections geographically on Google Maps under "Map Sections" tab for data presentations, analysis, and section detail information. And under "Map Data Ranges" tab, the selected data attributes associated with the LTPP sections are geographically displayed on Google Maps for data review, presentations, and analysis.

With just a few clicks through this tour, you'll be ready to quickly acquire knowledge to view LTPP data by Location. Ready?

Find Sections

Under the "Find Sections" panel on the left hand side of your screen, there are a number of filters that can assist you in narrowing down your search for LTPP sections. These filters include general information, structure, climate, traffic, and performance filters.

If you point your mouse over each filter, you will see a description that explains how each filter works. For example, you can filter to find sections that are more than 25 years old using the Age filter.

Filter Menu

In the “Find Sections” panel bar, you will see different options under filter menu. If you filter your search criteria using “Find Sections,” you can save your filters by clicking on the “Save Filters” option in the “Filter Menu”. When you click on the “Save Filters” menu option, a new window will appear asking you to name your set of filters.

You can then open the saved filters by clicking on the “Open Filters” option in the “Filter Menu.” When you open a saved set of filters, InfoPave will automatically apply your saved filters.

Section Information Bar

Section Information Bar shows the number of selected sections which have been filtered using the "Find Sections" panel. Other available options are "Show Sections" and "Go To…". The "Show Sections" button allows you to see the list of your selected sections and corresponding section information within each state or province.

The "Go To…" feature provides quick access to and switching capability among a series of InfoPave features such as Map Section by Location, Data Selection and Download, Section Summary Report, Section Timeline, and Others. For example, you can visualize data to make sure you have selected the sections you had in mind.

The "Show" drop-down menu is used to select "Location" or "Data". These two options correspond to the two different InfoPave map features. If "Location" is selected, the map will display section locations. If "Data" is selected, the map will display section locations as well as the range of the selected data attributes on each test section.

The "Data" drop-down menu includes ten different data attributes including age, climate, traffic, and performance data. By selecting each data attribute, the colors of the circles on the map will display the ranges of the selected data attribute on LTPP sections.

The map includes two legends: a legend for sections on the top left corner of the map and a legend for data on the top right corner of the map. The legend for sections indicates that active sections are represented by green pins, and inactive sections are indicated by red pins. The legend for Data includes circles with different colors and sizes. Each circle represents a range for the selected data type, and the values for each circle changes for each data type. For example, if you select Age (years) from the "Data" drop-down menu, five circles come up with different age ranges. The first circle (yellow) represents sections with ages between 0 and 15 years. The fifth circle (Pink) represents sections older than 61 years.

You can select a specific state or province from this drop-down menu to place the center of the map at that location. For example, if you select "Texas," the map will be centered on Texas.

When sections are close together on the map, the sections are grouped into a single cluster. Each cluster consists of three concentric circles. The inner circle shows the number of sections in each cluster. The color and size of the middle and outer circles represent the minimum and maximum ranges of the selected data type for the specific cluster, respectively.

Pan along the map by clicking and holding the left mouse button and dragging the map in the desired location. Zoom-in on an area of the map by clicking a cluster, pressing the "+" button, or scrolling the center wheel of your mouse. After zooming-in on the map, all sections are displayed separately with a circle and a pin marker. The color of the pin marker represents whether the section is active or out of study. The color of the circle marker indicates the corresponding data range.

Section Selection

Select a specific section by clicking on the corresponding pin marker on the map. Once a section is selected, the "Go To…" feature can be used to navigate to other InfoPave features such as Section Summary Report, which include further information about the particular section.

Please update your selection criteria, there are no more sections that meet your criteria.
